Lifetime Brands, Inc. (NASDAQ:LCUT) Stock Rockets 28% As Investors Are Less Pessimistic Than Expected

Simply Wall St·06/11/2025 10:29:00
Listen to the news

Lifetime Brands, Inc. (NASDAQ:LCUT) shareholders are no doubt pleased to see that the share price has bounced 28% in the last month, although it is still struggling to make up recently lost ground. Still, the 30-day jump doesn't change the fact that longer term shareholders have seen their stock decimated by the 59% share price drop in the last twelve months.

In spite of the firm bounce in price, it's still not a stretch to say that Lifetime Brands' price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 0.1x right now seems quite "middle-of-the-road" compared to the Consumer Durables industry in the United States, where the median P/S ratio is around 0.6x. However, investors might be overlooking a clear opportunity or potential setback if there is no rational basis for the P/S.

What Does Lifetime Brands' P/S Mean For Shareholders?

Lifetime Brands could be doing better as its revenue has been going backwards lately while most other companies have been seeing positive revenue growth. It might be that many expect the dour revenue performance to strengthen positively, which has kept the P/S from falling. However, if this isn't the case, investors might get caught out paying too much for the stock.

Is There Some Revenue Growth Forecasted For Lifetime Brands?

The only time you'd be comfortable seeing a P/S like Lifetime Brands' is when the company's growth is tracking the industry closely.

If we review the last year of revenue, the company posted a result that saw barely any deviation from a year ago. The lack of growth did nothing to help the company's aggregate three-year performance, which is an unsavory 20% drop in revenue. Therefore, it's fair to say the revenue growth recently has been undesirable for the company.

Turning to the outlook, the next three years should generate growth of 1.5% each year as estimated by the two analysts watching the company. That's shaping up to be materially lower than the 6.9% per year growth forecast for the broader industry.

With this information, we find it interesting that Lifetime Brands is trading at a fairly similar P/S compared to the industry. Apparently many investors in the company are less bearish than analysts indicate and aren't willing to let go of their stock right now. Maintaining these prices will be difficult to achieve as this level of revenue growth is likely to weigh down the shares eventually.

The Key Takeaway

Its shares have lifted substantially and now Lifetime Brands' P/S is back within range of the industry median. Typically, we'd caution against reading too much into price-to-sales ratios when settling on investment decisions, though it can reveal plenty about what other market participants think about the company.

Our look at the analysts forecasts of Lifetime Brands' revenue prospects has shown that its inferior revenue outlook isn't negatively impacting its P/S as much as we would have predicted. When we see companies with a relatively weaker revenue outlook compared to the industry, we suspect the share price is at risk of declining, sending the moderate P/S lower. A positive change is needed in order to justify the current price-to-sales ratio.
