Kinergy Insider Sellers Miss The Bus As Stock Jumps 11%

Listen to the news

Kinergy Corporation Ltd.'s (HKG:3302) stock rose 11% last week, but insiders who sold S$2.7m worth of stock over the last year are probably in a more advantageous position. Selling at an average price of S$0.15, which is higher than the current price might have been the right call as holding on to stock would have meant their investment would be worth less now than it was at the time of sale.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

Kinergy Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the insider, Bradley Fraser Kerr, for HK$2.7m worth of shares, at about HK$0.15 per share. We generally don't like to see insider selling, but the lower the sale price, the more it concerns us. It's of some comfort that this sale was conducted at a price well above the current share price, which is HK$0.12. So it is hard to draw any strong conclusion from it. Bradley Fraser Kerr was the only individual insider to sell shares in the last twelve months.

Insider Ownership Of Kinergy

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. It's great to see that Kinergy insiders own 45% of the company, worth about HK$49m. I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.
