Listen to the news

Insiders who bought BGMC International Limited (HKG:1693) in the last 12 months may probably not pay attention to the stock's recent 11% drop. Reason being, despite the recent loss, insiders original purchase value of RM926.4k is now worth RM2.05m.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At BGMC International

The insider Guohua Zhou made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for HK$926k worth of shares at a price of HK$1.20 each. Although we like to see insider buying, we note that this large purchase was at significantly below the recent price of HK$2.66. Because the shares were purchased at a lower price, this particular buy doesn't tell us much about how insiders feel about the current share price.

Insider Ownership

For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. BGMC International insiders own about HK$73m worth of shares (which is 69% of the company). This kind of significant ownership by insiders does generally increase the chance that the company is run in the interest of all shareholders.

So What Do The BGMC International Insider Transactions Indicate?

It is good to see the recent insider purchase. And the longer term insider transactions also give us confidence. But on the other hand, the company made a loss during the last year, which makes us a little cautious. Once you factor in the high insider ownership, it certainly seems like insiders are positive about BGMC International. One for the watchlist, at least! So while it's helpful to know what insiders are doing in terms of buying or selling, it's also helpful to know the risks that a particular company is facing.
