Labixiaoxin Snacks Group Limited (HKG:1262) shareholders will doubtless be very grateful to see the share price up 61% in the last quarter. But that is small recompense for the exasperating returns over three years. In that time, the share price dropped 55%. So it's good to see it climbing back up. Perhaps the company has turned over a new leaf.

Although the past week has been more reassuring for shareholders, they're still in the red over the last three years, so let's see if the underlying business has been responsible for the decline.

Because Labixiaoxin Snacks Group made a loss in the last twelve months, we think the market is probably more focussed on revenue and revenue growth, at least for now. Generally speaking, companies without profits are expected to grow revenue every year, and at a good clip. Some companies are willing to postpone profitability to grow revenue faster, but in that case one would hope for good top-line growth to make up for the lack of earnings.

In the last three years, Labixiaoxin Snacks Group saw its revenue grow by 11% per year, compound. That's a pretty good rate of top-line growth. So some shareholders would be frustrated with the compound loss of 16% per year. To be frank we're surprised to see revenue growth and share price growth diverge so strongly. It would be well worth taking a closer look at the company, to determine growth trends (and balance sheet strength).

A Different Perspective

We're pleased to report that Labixiaoxin Snacks Group shareholders have received a total shareholder return of 54% over one year. That certainly beats the loss of about 6% per year over the last half decade. The long term loss makes us cautious, but the short term TSR gain certainly hints at a brighter future. While it is well worth considering the different impacts that market conditions can have on the share price, there are other factors that are even more important.
