Investors Still Aren't Entirely Convinced By Redco Healthy Living Company Limited's (HKG:2370) Revenues Despite 44% Price Jump

Listen to the news

The Redco Healthy Living Company Limited (HKG:2370) share price has done very well over the last month, posting an excellent gain of 44%. While recent buyers may be laughing, long-term holders might not be as pleased since the recent gain only brings the stock back to where it started a year ago.

Even after such a large jump in price, Redco Healthy Living may still be sending buy signals at present with its price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 0.2x, considering almost half of all companies in the Real Estate industry in Hong Kong have P/S ratios greater than 0.7x and even P/S higher than 4x aren't out of the ordinary. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/S at face value as there may be an explanation why it's limited.

How Has Redco Healthy Living Performed Recently?

As an illustration, revenue has deteriorated at Redco Healthy Living over the last year, which is not ideal at all. It might be that many expect the disappointing revenue performance to continue or accelerate, which has repressed the P/S. However, if this doesn't eventuate then existing shareholders may be feeling optimistic about the future direction of the share price.

We don't have analyst forecasts, but you can see how recent trends are setting up the company for the future by checking out our free report on Redco Healthy Living's earnings, revenue and cash flow.

Is There Any Revenue Growth Forecasted For Redco Healthy Living?

There's an inherent assumption that a company should underperform the industry for P/S ratios like Redco Healthy Living's to be considered reasonable.

Retrospectively, the last year delivered a frustrating 6.6% decrease to the company's top line. That put a dampener on the good run it was having over the longer-term as its three-year revenue growth is still a noteworthy 18% in total. So we can start by confirming that the company has generally done a good job of growing revenue over that time, even though it had some hiccups along the way.

Weighing that recent medium-term revenue trajectory against the broader industry's one-year forecast for expansion of 4.8% shows it's about the same on an annualised basis.

In light of this, it's peculiar that Redco Healthy Living's P/S sits below the majority of other companies. Apparently some shareholders are more bearish than recent times would indicate and have been accepting lower selling prices.

What Does Redco Healthy Living's P/S Mean For Investors?

The latest share price surge wasn't enough to lift Redco Healthy Living's P/S close to the industry median. While the price-to-sales ratio shouldn't be the defining factor in whether you buy a stock or not, it's quite a capable barometer of revenue expectations.

The fact that Redco Healthy Living currently trades at a low P/S relative to the industry is unexpected considering its recent three-year growth is in line with the wider industry forecast. There could be some unobserved threats to revenue preventing the P/S ratio from matching the company's performance. revenue trends suggest that the risk of a price decline is low, investors appear to perceive a possibility of revenue volatility in the future.
