YGM Trading (HKG:375) Has Announced A Dividend Of HK$0.10

Simply Wall St·09/04/2025 22:38:58
Listen to the news

YGM Trading Limited's (HKG:375) investors are due to receive a payment of HK$0.10 per share on 22nd of October. This makes the dividend yield 9.5%, which will augment investor returns quite nicely.

YGM Trading Might Find It Hard To Continue The Dividend

If the payments aren't sustainable, a high yield for a few years won't matter that much. While YGM Trading is not profitable, it is paying out less than 75% of its free cash flow, which means that there is plenty left over for reinvestment into the business. In general, cash flows are more important than the more traditional measures of profit so we feel pretty comfortable with the dividend at this level.

Looking forward, earnings per share could rise by 55.5% over the next year if the trend from the last few years continues. We like to see the company moving towards profitability, but this probably won't be enough for it to post positive net income this year. The healthy cash flows are definitely as good sign, though so we wouldn't panic just yet, especially with the earnings growing.

Dividend Volatility

While the company has been paying a dividend for a long time, it has cut the dividend at least once in the last 10 years. The annual payment during the last 10 years was HK$0.40 in 2015, and the most recent fiscal year payment was HK$0.10. This works out to a decline of approximately 75% over that time. A company that decreases its dividend over time generally isn't what we are looking for.

The Company Could Face Some Challenges Growing The Dividend

With a relatively unstable dividend, and a poor history of shrinking dividends, it's even more important to see if EPS is growing. YGM Trading has seen EPS rising for the last five years, at 55% per annum. While the company is not yet turning a profit, it is growing at a good rate. If this trajectory continues and the company can turn a profit soon, it could bode well for the dividend going forward.

In Summary

In summary, while it's good to see that the dividend hasn't been cut, we are a bit cautious about YGM Trading's payments, as there could be some issues with sustaining them into the future. The payments haven't been particularly stable and we don't see huge growth potential, but with the dividend well covered by cash flows it could prove to be reliable over the short term. We would be a touch cautious of relying on this stock primarily for the dividend income.

Companies possessing a stable dividend policy will likely enjoy greater investor interest than those suffering from a more inconsistent approach.
