AGTech Holdings (HKG:8279) shareholders are up 10% this past week, but still in the red over the last three years

Listen to the news

It's nice to see the AGTech Holdings Limited (HKG:8279) share price up 10% in a week. But that doesn't help the fact that the three year return is less impressive. Truth be told the share price declined 17% in three years and that return, Dear Reader, falls short of what you could have got from passive investing with an index fund.

Although the past week has been more reassuring for shareholders, they're still in the red over the last three years, so let's see if the underlying business has been responsible for the decline.

Given that AGTech Holdings didn't make a profit in the last twelve months, we'll focus on revenue growth to form a quick view of its business development. When a company doesn't make profits, we'd generally hope to see good revenue growth. That's because it's hard to be confident a company will be sustainable if revenue growth is negligible, and it never makes a profit.

Over three years, AGTech Holdings grew revenue at 19% per year. That's a pretty good rate of top-line growth. Shareholders have endured a share price decline of 5% per year. So the market has definitely lost some love for the stock. With revenue growing at a solid clip, now might be the time to focus on the possibility that it will have a brighter future.

A Different Perspective

AGTech Holdings provided a TSR of 11% over the last twelve months. Unfortunately this falls short of the market return. But at least that's still a gain! Over five years the TSR has been a reduction of 3% per year, over five years. So this might be a sign the business has turned its fortunes around.
