Listen to the news

Changyou International Group Limited (HKG:1039) insiders who bought shares over the past year were rewarded handsomely last week. The stock rose 10.0%, resulting in a HK$9.1m rise in the company's market capitalisation, translating to a gain of 18% on their initial investment. In other words, the original CN¥1.96m purchase is now worth CN¥2.32m.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Changyou International Group

In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when insider Tang Pun bought HK$1.7m worth of shares at a price of HK$0.047 per share. Although we like to see insider buying, we note that this large purchase was at significantly below the recent price of HK$0.055. While it does suggest insiders consider the stock undervalued at lower prices, this transaction doesn't tell us much about what they think of current prices.

Insider Ownership

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. Changyou International Group insiders own about HK$53m worth of shares (which is 53% of the company). This kind of significant ownership by insiders does generally increase the chance that the company is run in the interest of all shareholders.
