From what we can see, insiders were net sellers in Laekna, Inc.'s (HKG:2105 ) during the past 12 months. That is, insiders sold the stock in greater numbers than they purchased it.
While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.
The CEO & Executive Chairman, Xiangyang Lu, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for HK$22m worth of shares at a price of HK$20.03 each. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. The good news is that this large sale was at well above current price of HK$15.94. So it is hard to draw any strong conclusion from it. Xiangyang Lu was the only individual insider to sell shares in the last twelve months.
Xiangyang Lu ditched 2.82m shares over the year. The average price per share was CN¥19.80. Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. Laekna insiders own about HK$922m worth of shares (which is 14% of the company). Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.
There haven't been any insider transactions in the last three months -- that doesn't mean much. It's heartening that insiders own plenty of stock, but we'd like to see more insider buying, since the last year of Laekna insider transactions don't fill us with confidence.
