Dow Gains Over 100 Points; Disney Posts Upbeat Earnings

U.S. stocks traded mixed this morning, with the Dow Jones index gaining more than 100 points on Monday.

Following the market opening Monday, the Dow traded up 0.24% to 49,009.24 while the NASDAQ fell 0.06% to 23,448.80. The S&P 500 also rose, gaining, 0.05% to 6,942.71.

Leading and Lagging Sectors

Materials shares gained by 0.8% on Monday.

In trading on Monday, energy stocks fell by 1.7%.

Top Headline

The Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) reported better-than-expected first-quarter results.

Walt Disney reported quarterly earnings of $1.63 per share which beat the analyst consensus estimate of $1.57 per share. The company reported quarterly sales of $25.981 billion which beat the analyst consensus estimate of $25.741 billion.

Equities Trading UP
           

  • Darkiris Inc. (NASDAQ:DKI) shares shot up 128% to $0.7601 after the company reported a year-over-year increase in FY25 revenue results.
  • Shares of Fusemachines Inc. (NASDAQ:FUSE) got a boost, surging 91% to $3.0094 after the company announced a partnership with ModulAIre to bring Fusemachines AI Studio and related AI services to enterprise clients seeking to operationalize AI at scale within IBM-based environments.
  • VenHub Global, Inc. (NASDAQ:VHUB) shares were also up, gaining 102% to $12.98. VenHub Global named Ian Rasmussen Executive as Vice President of Global Expansion, Partnerships.

Equities Trading DOWN

  • Elong Power Holding Limited (NASDAQ:ELPW) shares dropped 86% to $1.89 after the company announced pricing of $7.6 million public offering.
  • Shares of Phoenix Asia Holdings Limited (NASDAQ:PHOE) were down 81% to $25.00.
  • INLIF Limited (NASDAQ:INLF) was down, falling 64% to $0.5048.

Commodities

In commodity news, oil traded down 4.6% to $62.21 while gold traded up 0.5% at $4,768.20.

Silver traded up 2.5% to $80.555 on Monday, while copper fell 1.8% to $5.8195.

Euro zone

European shares were higher today. The eurozone's STOXX 600 rose 0.8%, while Spain's IBEX 35 Index rose 1%. London's FTSE 100 rose 1%, Germany's DAX gained 0.9% and France's CAC 40 gained 0.8% during the session.

Asia Pacific Markets

Asian markets closed mixed on Monday, with Japan's Nikkei falling 1.25%, Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index dipping 2.23%, China's Shanghai Composite falling 2.48% and India's BSE Sensex gaining 1.17%.

Economics

The S&P Global manufacturing PMI rose to 52.4 in January, up from the preliminary reading of 51.9 and versus December's five-month low level of 51.8.
