Possible Bearish Signals With Mao Geping Cosmetics Insiders Disposing Stock

Simply Wall St·02/03/2026 07:07:27
Listen to the news

In the last year, many Mao Geping Cosmetics Co., Ltd. (HKG:1318) insiders sold a substantial stake in the company which may have sparked shareholders' attention. When evaluating insider transactions, knowing whether insiders are buying is usually more beneficial than knowing whether they are selling, as the latter can be open to many interpretations. However, if numerous insiders are selling, shareholders should investigate more.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Mao Geping Cosmetics

In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the Co-Founder, Niping Mao, sold HK$149m worth of shares at a price of HK$87.88 per share. So what is clear is that an insider saw fit to sell at around the current price of HK$84.65. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. In this case, the big sale took place at around the current price, so it's not too bad (but it's still not a positive).

The last three months saw significant insider selling at Mao Geping Cosmetics. Specifically, insiders ditched HK$633m worth of shares in that time, and we didn't record any purchases whatsoever. In light of this it's hard to argue that all the insiders think that the shares are a bargain.

Insider Ownership

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. It's great to see that Mao Geping Cosmetics insiders own 76% of the company, worth about HK$32b. I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.

So What Do The Mao Geping Cosmetics Insider Transactions Indicate?
