Listen to the news

Insiders who bought HK$183.4m worth of Renze Harvest International Limited (HKG:1282) stock in the last year recovered part of their losses as the stock rose by 11% last week. The purchase, however, has proven to be a pricey bet, with losses currently totalling HK$30m.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Renze Harvest International

In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when insider Zhi Xiong Shi bought HK$142m worth of shares at a price of HK$0.13 per share. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at above the current price of HK$0.11. While their view may have changed since the purchase was made, this does at least suggest they have had confidence in the company's future. To us, it's very important to consider the price insiders pay for shares. Generally speaking, it catches our eye when insiders have purchased shares at above current prices, as it suggests they believed the shares were worth buying, even at a higher price.
