To the annoyance of some shareholders, TI Cloud Inc. (HKG:2167) shares are down a considerable 28% in the last month, which continues a horrid run for the company. Looking back over the past twelve months the stock has been a solid performer regardless, with a gain of 24%.
In spite of the heavy fall in price, TI Cloud may still be sending buy signals at present with its price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 1x, considering almost half of all companies in the Software industry in Hong Kong have P/S ratios greater than 2.6x and even P/S higher than 6x aren't out of the ordinary. Nonetheless, we'd need to dig a little deeper to determine if there is a rational basis for the reduced P/S.

TI Cloud has been doing a good job lately as it's been growing revenue at a solid pace. One possibility is that the P/S is low because investors think this respectable revenue growth might actually underperform the broader industry in the near future. If that doesn't eventuate, then existing shareholders have reason to be optimistic about the future direction of the share price.
Want the full picture on earnings, revenue and cash flow for the company? Then our free report on TI Cloud will help you shine a light on its historical performance.TI Cloud's P/S ratio would be typical for a company that's only expected to deliver limited growth, and importantly, perform worse than the industry.
Retrospectively, the last year delivered a decent 15% gain to the company's revenues. The latest three year period has also seen an excellent 40% overall rise in revenue, aided somewhat by its short-term performance. So we can start by confirming that the company has done a great job of growing revenues over that time.
Comparing that to the industry, which is predicted to deliver 35% growth in the next 12 months, the company's momentum is weaker, based on recent medium-term annualised revenue results.
With this information, we can see why TI Cloud is trading at a P/S lower than the industry. Apparently many shareholders weren't comfortable holding on to something they believe will continue to trail the wider industry.
TI Cloud's P/S has taken a dip along with its share price. We'd say the price-to-sales ratio's power isn't primarily as a valuation instrument but rather to gauge current investor sentiment and future expectations.
As we suspected, our examination of TI Cloud revealed its three-year revenue trends are contributing to its low P/S, given they look worse than current industry expectations. Right now shareholders are accepting the low P/S as they concede future revenue probably won't provide any pleasant surprises. Unless the recent medium-term conditions improve, they will continue to form a barrier for the share price around these levels.
