Listen to the news

Last week, BGMC International Limited (HKG:1693) insiders, who had purchased shares in the previous 12 months were rewarded handsomely. The shares increased by 11% last week, resulting in a HK$19m increase in the company's market worth, implying a 271% gain on their initial purchase. In other words, the original RM926.4k purchase is now worth RM3.44m.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At BGMC International

In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when insider Guohua Zhou bought HK$926k worth of shares at a price of HK$1.20 per share. We do like to see buying, but this purchase was made at well below the current price of HK$4.45. Because it occurred at a lower valuation, it doesn't tell us much about whether insiders might find today's price attractive.

Insider Ownership

Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. BGMC International insiders own about HK$119m worth of shares (which is 62% of the company). I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.
