Shenzhen Hipine Precision Technology Co., Ltd's (HKG:2583) robust earnings report didn't manage to move the market for its stock. We did some digging, and we found some concerning factors in the details.
One key financial ratio used to measure how well a company converts its profit to free cash flow (FCF) is the accrual ratio. To get the accrual ratio we first subtract FCF from profit for a period, and then divide that number by the average operating assets for the period. The ratio shows us how much a company's profit exceeds its FCF.
As a result, a negative accrual ratio is a positive for the company, and a positive accrual ratio is a negative. That is not intended to imply we should worry about a positive accrual ratio, but it's worth noting where the accrual ratio is rather high. That's because some academic studies have suggested that high accruals ratios tend to lead to lower profit or less profit growth.
For the year to December 2025, Shenzhen Hipine Precision Technology had an accrual ratio of 0.27. Unfortunately, that means its free cash flow fell significantly short of its reported profits. In the last twelve months it actually had negative free cash flow, with an outflow of CN¥142m despite its profit of CN¥101.9m, mentioned above. We saw that FCF was CN¥2.4m a year ago though, so Shenzhen Hipine Precision Technology has at least been able to generate positive FCF in the past.

Shenzhen Hipine Precision Technology's accrual ratio for the last twelve months signifies cash conversion is less than ideal, which is a negative when it comes to our view of its earnings. Therefore, it seems possible to us that Shenzhen Hipine Precision Technology's true underlying earnings power is actually less than its statutory profit. But the good news is that its EPS growth over the last three years has been very impressive. The goal of this article has been to assess how well we can rely on the statutory earnings to reflect the company's potential, but there is plenty more to consider.
