Shareholders didn't seem to be thrilled with Qingci Games Inc.'s (HKG:6633) recent earnings report, despite healthy profit numbers. Our analysis suggests they may be concerned about some underlying details.
As finance nerds would already know, the accrual ratio from cashflow is a key measure for assessing how well a company's free cash flow (FCF) matches its profit. To get the accrual ratio we first subtract FCF from profit for a period, and then divide that number by the average operating assets for the period. This ratio tells us how much of a company's profit is not backed by free cashflow.
That means a negative accrual ratio is a good thing, because it shows that the company is bringing in more free cash flow than its profit would suggest. While it's not a problem to have a positive accrual ratio, indicating a certain level of non-cash profits, a high accrual ratio is arguably a bad thing, because it indicates paper profits are not matched by cash flow. Notably, there is some academic evidence that suggests that a high accrual ratio is a bad sign for near-term profits, generally speaking.
For the year to December 2025, Qingci Games had an accrual ratio of 0.48. That means it didn't generate anywhere near enough free cash flow to match its profit. Statistically speaking, that's a real negative for future earnings. To wit, it produced free cash flow of CN¥20m during the period, falling well short of its reported profit of CN¥121.7m. We note, however, that Qingci Games grew its free cash flow over the last year. Having said that, there is more to the story. The accrual ratio is reflecting the impact of unusual items on statutory profit, at least in part.

Given the accrual ratio, it's not overly surprising that Qingci Games' profit was boosted by unusual items worth CN¥132m in the last twelve months. We can't deny that higher profits generally leave us optimistic, but we'd prefer it if the profit were to be sustainable. When we crunched the numbers on thousands of publicly listed companies, we found that a boost from unusual items in a given year is often not repeated the next year. Which is hardly surprising, given the name. Qingci Games had a rather significant contribution from unusual items relative to its profit to December 2025. As a result, we can surmise that the unusual items are making its statutory profit significantly stronger than it would otherwise be.
Qingci Games had a weak accrual ratio, but its profit did receive a boost from unusual items. On reflection, the above-mentioned factors give us the strong impression that Qingci Games'underlying earnings power is not as good as it might seem, based on the statutory profit numbers. So if you'd like to dive deeper into this stock, it's crucial to consider any risks it's facing. While conducting our analysis, we found that Qingci Games has 1 warning sign and it would be unwise to ignore it.
Our examination of Qingci Games has focussed on certain factors that can make its earnings look better than they are. And, on that basis, we are somewhat skeptical.
