Have Insiders Sold Natera Shares Recently?

Simply Wall St·05/04/2026 10:56:52
Listen to the news

We wouldn't blame Natera, Inc. (NASDAQ:NTRA) shareholders if they were a little worried about the fact that Steven Chapman, the CEO & Director recently netted about US$1.2m selling shares at an average price of US$204. That's a big disposal, and it decreased their holding size by 19%, which is notable but not too bad.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Natera

In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the Lead Independent Director, Roelof Botha, sold US$18m worth of shares at a price of US$239 per share. We generally don't like to see insider selling, but the lower the sale price, the more it concerns us. It's of some comfort that this sale was conducted at a price well above the current share price, which is US$207. So it may not shed much light on insider confidence at current levels.

In the last year Natera insiders didn't buy any company stock. You can see the insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year depicted in the chart below. By clicking on the graph below, you can see the precise details of each insider transaction!

Does Natera Boast High Insider Ownership?

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Natera insiders own about US$887m worth of shares (which is 3.0% of the company). I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.

So What Does This Data Suggest About Natera Insiders?

Insiders haven't bought Natera stock in the last three months, but there was some selling. And even if we look at the last year, we didn't see any purchases. While insiders do own a lot of shares in the company (which is good), our analysis of their transactions doesn't make us feel confident about the company. So these insider transactions can help us build a thesis about the stock, but it's also worthwhile knowing the risks facing this company. To assist with this, we've discovered 1 warning sign that you should run your eye over to get a better picture of Natera.
