Listen to the news

Insiders who purchased HK$28.8m worth of Brightstar Technology Group Co., Ltd. (HKG:8446) shares over the past year recouped some of their losses after price gained 30% last week. However, the purchase is proving to be an expensive wager as insiders are yet to get ahead of their losses which currently stand at HK$3.4m since the time of purchase.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

Brightstar Technology Group Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by CEO & Executive Director Ho Ting Yeung for HK$29m worth of shares, at about HK$0.14 per share. That means that even when the share price was higher than HK$0.12 (the recent price), an insider wanted to purchase shares. Their view may have changed since then, but at least it shows they felt optimistic at the time. In our view, the price an insider pays for shares is very important. As a general rule, we feel more positive about a stock when an insider has bought shares at above current prices, because that suggests they viewed the stock as good value, even at a higher price. Ho Ting Yeung was the only individual insider to buy shares in the last twelve months.
