Chuanglian Holdings' Market Cap Drops To HK$153m Leaving Insiders With Losses

Listen to the news

Insiders who acquired CN¥8.00m worth of Chuanglian Holdings Limited's (HKG:2371) stock at an average price of CN¥0.57 in the past 12 months may be dismayed by the recent 11% price decline. Insiders invest with the hopes of seeing their money grow in value over time. However, as a result of recent losses, their initial investment is now only worth CN¥3.10m, which is not what they expected.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Chuanglian Holdings

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by insider Xing Lu for HK$3.0m worth of shares, at about HK$0.38 per share. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at above the current price of HK$0.22. Their view may have changed since then, but at least it shows they felt optimistic at the time. We always take careful note of the price insiders pay when purchasing shares. Generally speaking, it catches our eye when insiders have purchased shares at above current prices, as it suggests they believed the shares were worth buying, even at a higher price.

While Chuanglian Holdings insiders bought shares during the last year, they didn't sell. The average buy price was around HK$0.57. I'd consider this a positive as it suggests insiders see value at around the current price. Does Chuanglian Holdings Boast High Insider Ownership?

Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. Chuanglian Holdings insiders own 44% of the company, currently worth about HK$67m based on the recent share price. I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.
