Just because a business does not make any money, does not mean that the stock will go down. By way of example, Kaisa Health Group Holdings (HKG:876) has seen its share price rise 300% over the last year, delighting many shareholders. But while history lauds those rare successes, those that fail are often forgotten; who remembers Pets.com?
So notwithstanding the buoyant share price, we think it's well worth asking whether Kaisa Health Group Holdings' cash burn is too risky. For the purposes of this article, cash burn is the annual rate at which an unprofitable company spends cash to fund its growth; its negative free cash flow. The first step is to compare its cash burn with its cash reserves, to give us its 'cash runway'.
A company's cash runway is calculated by dividing its cash hoard by its cash burn. As at December 2025, Kaisa Health Group Holdings had cash of HK$110m and no debt. Looking at the last year, the company burnt through HK$58m. That means it had a cash runway of around 23 months as of December 2025. That's not too bad, but it's fair to say the end of the cash runway is in sight, unless cash burn reduces drastically. You can see how its cash balance has changed over time in the image below.

Some investors might find it troubling that Kaisa Health Group Holdings is actually increasing its cash burn, which is up 49% in the last year. And we must say we find it concerning that operating revenue dropped 25% over the same period. Considering both these metrics, we're a little concerned about how the company is developing. In reality, this article only makes a short study of the company's growth data. This graph of historic earnings and revenue shows how Kaisa Health Group Holdings is building its business over time.
While Kaisa Health Group Holdings seems to be in a fairly good position, it's still worth considering how easily it could raise more cash, even just to fuel faster growth. Companies can raise capital through either debt or equity. Commonly, a business will sell new shares in itself to raise cash and drive growth. We can compare a company's cash burn to its market capitalisation to get a sense for how many new shares a company would have to issue to fund one year's operations.
Kaisa Health Group Holdings has a market capitalisation of HK$464m and burnt through HK$58m last year, which is 13% of the company's market value. Given that situation, it's fair to say the company wouldn't have much trouble raising more cash for growth, but shareholders would be somewhat diluted.
On this analysis of Kaisa Health Group Holdings' cash burn, we think its cash runway was reassuring, while its falling revenue has us a bit worried. Even though we don't think it has a problem with its cash burn, the analysis we've done in this article does suggest that shareholders should give some careful thought to the potential cost of raising more money in the future. Separately, we looked at different risks affecting the company and spotted 3 warning signs for Kaisa Health Group Holdings (of which 2 can't be ignored!) you should know about.
