While it’s been a great week for Yuk Wing Group Holdings Limited (HKG:1536) shareholders after stock gained 43%, they should consider it with a grain of salt. In spite of the relatively cheap prices, insiders made the decision to sell HK$741k worth of stock in the last 12 months. This could be a warning indicator of vulnerabilities in the future.
While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.
The insider, Shixin Huang, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for HK$741k worth of shares at a price of HK$0.23 each. That means that an insider was selling shares at slightly below the current price (HK$0.34). We generally consider it a negative if insiders have been selling, especially if they did so below the current price, because it implies that they considered a lower price to be reasonable. Please do note, however, that sellers may have a variety of reasons for selling, so we don't know for sure what they think of the stock price. It is worth noting that this sale was only 12% of Shixin Huang's holding. Shixin Huang was the only individual insider to sell shares in the last twelve months.

The last quarter saw substantial insider selling of Yuk Wing Group Holdings shares. Specifically, insider Shixin Huang ditched HK$741k worth of shares in that time, and we didn't record any purchases whatsoever. Overall this makes us a bit cautious, but it's not the be all and end all.
Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. Yuk Wing Group Holdings insiders own 46% of the company, currently worth about HK$71m based on the recent share price. This kind of significant ownership by insiders does generally increase the chance that the company is run in the interest of all shareholders.
An insider sold Yuk Wing Group Holdings shares recently, but they didn't buy any. And even if we look at the last year, we didn't see any purchases. It is good to see high insider ownership, but the insider selling leaves us cautious.
