Republic Healthcare's Market Cap Drops To HK$76m Leaving Insiders With Losses

Listen to the news

The recent price decline of 14% in Republic Healthcare Limited's (HKG:8357) stock may have disappointed insiders who bought S$5.75m worth of shares at an average price of S$0.16 in the past 12 months. This is not good as insiders invest based on expectations that their money will appreciate over time. However, as a result of recent losses, their original investment is now worth only S$4.44m.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Republic Healthcare

In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when Non-Executive Director Liang Wang bought HK$4.2m worth of shares at a price of HK$0.16 per share. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at above the current price of HK$0.12. Their view may have changed since then, but at least it shows they felt optimistic at the time. To us, it's very important to consider the price insiders pay for shares. It is generally more encouraging if they paid above the current price, as it suggests they saw value, even at higher levels.

While Republic Healthcare insiders bought shares during the last year, they didn't sell. I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders.
