Revenue growth

A company’s long-term revenue performance can indicate its overall quality. Even a bad business can perform well for one or two quarters, but a top-tier one grows for years. Moelis’s revenue grew at a weak 1% compounded annual growth rate over the last five years, falling short of our standards.

Moelis quarterly revenue

Long-term growth matters most, but within financials, a half-decade historical view may miss recent interest rate changes, market returns and industry trends. Moelis’s annualized revenue growth of 29.6% over the last two years is above its five-year trend, suggesting its demand recently accelerated. Moelis year-on-year revenue growthNote: Quarters not shown were determined to be outliers because they were impacted by outsized investment gains/losses that are not indicative of the recurring fundamentals of the business.

This quarter, Moelis’s revenue grew by 13.2% year on year to $425.6 million but fell short of Wall Street’s consensus estimates.

Key takeaways from Moelis’s Q3 results

Moelis’s Q3 results were mixed: EBITDA and EPS topped analysts’ consensus estimates, but revenue fell short. The revenue miss left the quarter short of a stronger overall result. Shares remained flat at $57.96 immediately after the release.

Moelis may have had a tough quarter, but evaluating the stock also requires considering its valuation and business quality alongside the latest quarterly results. For more on Moelis, read our full research report here (it’s free).
