Expand Energy Stock: Is Wall Street Bullish or Bearish?

With a market cap of $27.2 billion, Expand Energy Corporation (EXE) is an independent natural gas producer that engages in the acquisition, exploration, and development of properties to produce oil, natural gas, and natural gas liquids.

Shares of EXE have notably outperformed the broader market over the past 52 weeks. EXE has surged 27.5% over this period, while the broader S&P 500 Index ($SPXhas gained 10.1%. Moreover, shares of EXE are up 14.9% on a YTD basis, compared to SPX’s marginal dip.

Looking closer, the Oklahoma City, Oklahoma-based company has outpaced the iShares U.S. Energy ETF’s (IYE10.5% drop over the past 52 weeks and 4.8% decline on a YTD basis.

Expand Energy stock fell 3.3% following the release of its Q1 2025 results on Apr. 29. The company reported a strong revenue increase of 103.1% year-over-year to $2.2 billion, beating the Wall Street expectations of $1.85 billion. Its adjusted EPS surged to $2.02 from $0.56 in the prior-year quarter, exceeding the consensus estimate by 9.2%. 

For the fiscal year ending in December 2025, analysts expect EXE’s adjusted EPS to increase significantly year-over-year to $7.68. The company's earnings surprise history is mixed. It beat the consensus estimates in three of the past four quarters while missing on another occasion. 

Among the 26 analysts covering the stock, the consensus rating is a “Strong Buy.” That’s based on 22 “Strong Buy” ratings, two “Moderate Buys,” and two “Holds.”

This configuration is more bullish than three months ago, with 16 “Strong Buy” ratings on the stock.

On May 13, Mizuho analyst Nitin Kumar raised EXE's price target to $141 while maintaining an “Outperform” rating on the stock. 

As of writing, Expand Energy is trading below the mean price target of $126.80. The Street-high price target of $170 implies a potential upside of 48.6% from the current price levels.
